TFA247
Introduction | Schedule | News | Documentaries | Documentaries | Comedy | Christmas
The engineering tests broadcast before the start of any music radio station have usually proved better than the programmes they go on to broadcast so I have created a station which is in perpetual test mode, and will never go into full programme service. The stream is therefore liable to interruption for maintenance software updates etc.
This is what happens when a sound engineer decides to create an Internet Radio stream!
It all started in December 2018 when I used some fairly basic software - Winamp and Edcast - to stream Christmas music to myself at work, and as I set up to do the same thing in 2019 I idly wondered whether I could do something a bit more organised on an ongoing basis. Before too long the wondering became less idle and I looked at what software was available to do this at little or no cost. After running feasibilty tests during January 2020 the embryonic TFA247 was born and christened. (It's named after my community radio show The Friday Alternative.) A tentative schedule began to coalesce and soon moved from scraps of paper to a spreadsheet, a Google document, and ultimately this web page.
The schedule includes hat-tips to broadcasting history. particularly that of the Light Programme, Radio 2 and Capital Radio. The music is all hand-picked. The comedy is taken almost entirely from past shows broadcast on the BBC Light Programme, Home Service, and their upstart successors. Likewise the documentaries, though you may spot occasional programmes taken from the World Service and even the early days of Capital Radio. It's also worth mentioning, too, that the station is entirely digital, with as much of the output as possible sourced from either CD or high-quality digital downloads.
The schedule will change from time-to-time and content may vary from the schedule and additionally suffer/benefit from planned/unplanned changes/interruptions! There's a changelog here
Finally, don't forget, TFA247 is a private, unlicenced Internet Radio stream. Friends only. That's why it's password protected :-)
